Is it typical for practices to only accept newborns?

We just moved to Arlington (22201) from NY and we are looking for a new Pediatrician. I called Arlington Pediatrics and was told they only accept newborns.
We already had to get is school forms signed by his old pediatrician in NY. We really need to find a doc here.

I have searched the threads. This is where I found Arlington Pediatrics, but most of the posts are OLD. Anyone have a pediatrician in North Arlington they like. I really don't want ot have to go as far as Fairfax.
I work at the WB so NW DC would work too. TIA!

I think it is common, especially with busy/popular practices. You've dodged a bullet if you ask me - we used to go to Arlington Pediatrics and it made me crazy. There are plenty of other pediatric practices in Arlington, Falls Church, and McLean. Sleepy Hollow comes to mind but I know there are others. Also you can look at family practices - many have doctors with pediatric speciality or are GP or family practitioners, in addition to internists etc.

We had this problem when we moved from NJ to MoCo with our teens. No pediatricians had openings to accept teenagers. We ended up finding a family practice doctor for them. It was a very frustrating process. Good luck.
