Do any dental plans cover braces?

Anonymous
We have DeltaDentalVA and it looks like they don't cover braces. Wondering what plans are out there that do and how much do they cover? DD is 9 and is going for a consult next week along with $300 for xrays/etc not covered by insurance.

You're going to the wrong ortho. Many offer free consultations with free x rays. $300 just to tell you what needs to be done is outrageous.

Where are you? Maybe we can help with recommendations.

I have Delta Dental and it covered a little less than half of the cost.

Most dental plans only cover about $1000.
We ended up going with Merrifield Orthodontics as they required less down than other practices we visited, and we've been very happy so far.

I got free consultations with three orthodontists - one of them even did the X-rays for free and all offered quotes at the end of it so I could decide whether or not to use them. I think you end up paying more and waiting longer for the insurance than if you just put the money into an FSA. I don't know anyone who has used insurance for braces - everyone I know uses the FSA and/or pays out of pocket.

Ours covers $2500 ( it will pay 50% of the cost up to $2500). It is a United Concordia group plan through a big emp, oyer.

Flexible spending account

Metlife PPO covers with no waiting period. It's not the whole amount but it will help.

We have MetLife dental and the coverage is fairly good. We also used funds from our flexible spending account to cover the difference. Also I think you need to look for a different practice. We had 3 different consults and did not pay anything at the consults.

OP here - the consultation is free but the "diagnostic overview/X-rays" are $300 - this is in Silver Soring off of Cherry Hill rd

I think the plan coverage is dictated by your employer, so Delta Dental be fits may vary widely on that.

I had united Concordia when I worked for state government. No ortho coverage. I work for county government now and united Concordia covers $1,000.

Um no. That is a rip off. Your dentist will do the diagnostic X-ray under your dental insurance and happy to share with ortho. Any ortho who charges you-- run!
