Allergic to fiber???

Anonymous
I seem to have become allergic to fiber, in all forms. It started as an allergy to psyllium husks, which I used to take without any problem. The first few times it happened, I thought I was dying of heart failure. The last time I took psyllium, I had palpitations that felt like my heart was flopping around in my chest, then like it was laboring just to beat. I had a hard time breathing and had the sensation that I needed to cough. It lasted an entire day. It only ended when I was nearly in a car accident so I got a big dose of adrenaline and it went away, which leads me to believe it was a severe allergic reaction.

Now I can't eat whole wheat, oat bran etc. without getting palpitations and feeling faint. I had fresh coconut yesterday and ate it with some bits of the shell still attached to the meat and now I'm having the same reaction.

Anyone else have an allergic reaction to all fiber? What in the world could cause a thing like this?

I'd see a doctor -- this doesn't seem very normal. Are you sure you don't have a heart condition or some other issue? I don't think you could be allergic to fiber in all forms, but you could have a gluten allergy or something else. Definitely go see a doctor.
