FCPS SOL Remediation courses

I was just browsing the list of FCPS summer programs and came across these. What is the purpose of these courses exactly?
They seem to last either a weekend or a couple of weeks. What do they hope to teach the kids during that time that they weren't able to teach them in an entire school year? It almost looks like an attempt to check a box saying that some intervention was provided. Do they give them intensive instructions in how to answer certain question types so they can pass the retake? Or is it just designed to punish the kids by sending them to summer school? |

| In high school, these are for students who passed the class but didn't pass the SOL. They can then take the test again at the end of the summer school session and hopefully get the SOL credit. |
