Silly question, but school supplies for college?

| I'm sure this is a no-brainer for those of you who have BTDT, but what kind of school supplies should DS bring with him as a freshman? I know most classes/professors will have their own way of doing things and list requirements on the syllabus, but anything he should have with him to start the semester out? Do kids even use notebooks anymore, or is everything on the laptop? TIA! |

| Take plenty of spiral notebooks and some notebook paper, pens, pencils, and printer paper. My DS went to college with only one 5-subject notebook, and quickly found out that he needed more, but the prices at the campus bookstore were crazy and the stores around the campus were sold out of school supplies early in the semester. Also, he noted that many kids used a tablet in class, rather than a laptop, so we bought him one for Christmas. |

| You need basically the same supplies as high school (notebooks and pens), plus things like tape, stapler, etc for the desk. My DC took a printer freshman year but then brought it home because she wasn't using it. Then took it back junior year. My DC just bought what she needed at the bookstore or at target. |

| My advice is wait to buy most supplies until after he's had his first classes and knows what will work best. He can get whatever he needs at the campus bookstore. |

20:28 Not necessarily. Bookstores do not stock supplies for thousands of students. If the campus is in a city, possibly -- but they sell out, too.
DC's SLAC has a list of suggested supplies. We're shopping for them this weekend! |

| Just wait. Each class is different, as is each professor, whom can be very specific in the supplies they want/need. No rush on the first day. Just the book, a spiral notebook, paper and pen. |

Are you the OP? In any case, I certainly can understand shopping with DS if he needs assistance due to a disability. I guess I just react when poorly when parents seem overly involved in their kids' college experiences. I apologize for my assumptions. |

| Not the OP. Shopping for things with your college-bound student is hardly over involved, whatever the circumstances. It's kind of a last hurrah, you know? Some parents of college bound children barely see their children, they're socializing and working so much. That's my situation. Just curious: How old are your children? |

Not the pp but we have amazon prime. My DC uses it frequently for things she needs and doesn't have time to run out and get, or isn't available in the small college town. The free 2 day delivery is usually fine (and sometimes comes the next day anyway). |
