Girl's House Soccer: FPYC or VYS?

Anonymous
My daughter is turning 5. We live around Vienna metro. Both clubs are equally close to us. Does anyone have experience to share?

My daughter was born in September. Based on the age charge, she would be placed in U5 in Fall 2014 season. The only difference we noted is that VYS has Grade Level Exception policy that allows her to play up in U6 so that she can play with the kids from her same grade level in school. FPYC doesn't seem to have this policy.

I don't have any great feedback -- I think rec is largely the same everywhere and largely depends on the coach of the particular team. But I suspect FPYC would let your kid play up. I think that's pretty standard.

My general response is to have your kid play house where her friends and classmates play, but keep in mind her playing experience/enjoyment will depend on the parent coach, whose quality will vary greatly regardless of the club. If you feel she really enjoys it and soccer may become something she might be serious about, then evaluate the club's travel program. VYS is generally more successful but there has been a LOT of complaints lately about VYS' professional staff and how they seem to have lost focus on the players (the kids' academy director doesn't even bother to learn kids names even after several years of practices, etc.) and are more concerned about consolidating their power.

I agree with the PP. Have her play with the club that children from her school play in.

VYS I believe is larger than FPYC and has about twice the number of travel and house teams. FPYC segregates their children into pre-travel and house a year or so earlier than VYS. I don't know about the grade level exceptions. I'd check with both places.
