Approached about a career opportunity only to have the position canceled

Anonymous
I'm so absolutely upset. Out of the blue, I was approached by former colleague of mine to ask if I would come on board his team per the suggestion of his supervisor (with whom I also enjoy a good rapport). The position he offered was perfect for me, and he even had met meet the rest of the team. They all gave me the hard sell on the organization. No, ifs, only when you come on board. As far as I was concerned it was mostly a done deal. I was thrilled.

Well, I just heard back from them that the board of directors decided to completely cancel the position I was offered... before I even had the chance to meet with them.

Why would they set me up this way to only pull the rug from under me? If it wasn't a secure position, wouldn't they have told me so from the onset?

Bummer. I'm sorry, OP. They probably feel badly about it as well, but couldn't change things.

This has happened to me too, OP. It just sucks. You get very excited for this new opportunity, and then it's just gone and for some reason, it's a lot more disappointing than if you had applied for something and not gotten it.
