What is the obsession with Frozen about?

Clearly, Disney is onto something with this movie. Why, oh why, is it so popular?

I don't get it, either. And every song grates on me--not because they're overplayed (which they are) but because they're just not that well-constructed.

Honestly, I don't know. I am a HUGE disney fan but I watched it and was totally disappointed. It doesn't even rate in my top 10 disney movies. Maybe not even Top 20 when you factor in Pixar movies. My daughter is so funny--she thinks Elsa is scary and Evil!

And the music is lame. Compare that score to the Lion King and it just fades away. There is not a single song that sticks in my brain. But Bippidi Boppidy Boop or Bare Necessities or Hajuna Matata or Under the Sea! All just stick! And what about the great music from Mary Poppins.

Totally agree.

We don't get it because we are old. LOL.

My five year old son absolutely loves Frozen. He talks about Elsa, Anna, Olaf... He watched two dozens of Disney movies including Cars, Planes, Up, Nemo, Toy Story.... Frozen is his favorite. Who knows why.

Well, it's obviously because of the music. Tangled didn't have any songs.

The songs of Frozen may not be to your liking (I like Let It Go), but to a 5 year old they're awesome. Disney has returned to their musical formula, which worked great for them in the past.

It's the music, coupled with the right story formula - flawed, 3-dimensional characters, various levels of sophistication, hero tale with a twist - plus the animation is pretty cool.

We were at a restaurant in Old Town a few days ago, and Let it Go came on. There was a table of two families, with a few little girls and one little boy. The little girls all automatically started singing away, and the little boy sat there with his hands over his ears. I'm with ya, kid.

Let it go.

What is so special about the music?? DH and I watched it (DD is an infant but we were curious what the fuss was about) and found the music dull. On paper I like the idea of it, the messages, etc but the execution left me (ha ha) cold.

I have never seen the movie - we have boys - but I love the Let it Go song. I'm not saying it's good, but it is SO CATCHY!

I think the idea of a princess who has a power activated by her emotions, which she cannot control, is pretty cool. I imagine a lot of kids can identify with that.

Hate hate hate the let it go song. And I think idina's version is worse than Demi's!!

Tangled had plenty of songs! We play them in the car all the time. Frozen was good, but it didn't knock Tangled off the top step in our house.

+1. I just saw it and was so let down. Lame, forgettable music; strange plot; insipid villains; annoying snowman sidekick who was a very poor man's Sebastian/Abu/Balu. The one great thing: the renderings of the ice and the ice castle. That was quite beautiful. Well, and I guess the key life lesson that instant and amazing chemistry with a guy doesn't mean he's a good guy. I would LOVE for DD to learn that from Frozen, instead of the hard way like her mother!

Frozen was bland. It was also clear from its inception that it was going to go straight to Broadway to be a musical. It was designed that way. The songs are overblown and wretched, and there are so many of them in the movie that you dont' feel like you're in a movie.

Bad.
