Argan oil making hair greasy

Anonymous
I've been experimenting with using argon oil in my hair and it is not working out. Most recently I put a tiny little drop in with my styling cream and applied it to wet hair. It hasn't even been 12 hours and my hair looks dirty. I've read that it should be applied to roots, but should I avoiding the roots. I used some dry shampoo to try combat the issue but my hair still doesn't look good. Tips?

I only put it on the ends of my hair.

I don't think it's for all hair types. I have dry frizzy hair and it helps to hold the curl.

Ugh, my colorist once applied regular Moroccan Oil all through my hair. It was so oily it didn't come out after 3 washes. I had to go back to the salon to have them wash it with some stripping shampoo, and it still took them several washes. Now I use Moroccan Oil Light, which is much better for my extremely fine hair. And I only apply it to the bottom half of my hair.

Use it sparingly on dry hair to tame frizzies. Only use it on the bottom 1/4 of your hair.

Use it only on the bottom of your hair. Use it on your roots right before washing. Also, just use a tiny amount, and it will last for days. If you wash your hair more than once or twice a week, it may just not work for your hair.

^^^ Also, it works much better on wet hair. It will seal the moisture in, or on dry hair, seal it out. So either use it right after showering, or wet the ends of your dry hair before applying.

OP here. Thanks for the tips (no pun intended). I will try it again and apply it only to the bottom of my hair. The thing is, I want something to restore luster to my roots. Sigh. I might have to do another keratin treatment, it seems.

Try a Kerastase conditioner. Check reviews for which is best for your hair type. The prices make me choke but I've really used better shampoo, and I've tried many.

I found the same thing with argan oil. My hairstylist recommended a different oil-- Davines Oi Oil. I LOVE it! It is lightweight and you can reapply it as needed during the day without weighing hair down or building up.

I bought it on Amazon but here are some reviews from Makeup Alley: http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=152567/Oi-Oil---Absolute-Beautifying-Potion/Davines/Treatments

I have the same problem with any oil. Even if I apply it on the lower portions, it makes me have to wash my hair sooner.

I have had much better results controlling frizz with a keratin treatment. I use Uncurly (a DIY keratin) and I am speechless at how good it is at eliminating frizz and giving me the flexibility to wear it curly or straight. It does more for me than oils ever did.

It also matters what type/quality of arganoil you are using. I bought 100 percent from amazon.com. I have very long hair and apply only six drops to the bottom half of it when dry. I agree with the comment about putting in on just after a shampoo. Then I use 12 drops. I put the drops in my hands, massage it between the hands, then flip my hair over and very gently cover the ends, moving my hands around a lot. Works beautifully. I love it also on my skin and recently started using in on my nails when doing a manicure.

I just use coconut oil. If you use too much it get greasy; if you use just enough it's fantastic. And lately I've added a drop of extra virgin olive oil. Only need to wash my hair 2x/week. My hair is fine, thick and wavy/curly, tends to get a little dry I guess. For shampoo and conditioner I just use Suave "Naturals."
