Hermit Crabs?

Anyone know where I can buy a hermit crab and starter kit/container in Montgomery County (Rockville, Silver Spring) or NW DC (near downtown business district)?

We just bought some at Petco.

Be sure you know what you're doing. I used to work at a pet store where many people who bought them came back to complain that they died. They are not as easy of pets as you might think . . .

I personally don't think that they should be sold as pets. But that aside, ask lots of questions about their care. They need a humid environment, lots of diff. shells of diff sizes so they can find new "homes" when they outgrow theirs, and sponges for drinking. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. We had one as a pet when I was little -- and he lived for a few years (we kept having to find bigger shells for him -- he grew to be quite large).

They smell and are not that entertaining, in my opinion.

They're GREAT in a white cream sauce over linguine.
