I can't help but feel even more DISGUSTED about the POTOMAC SCHOOL after reading this Washington Post article posted on 7/1/2014. I find the whole "cover-up" by their "Old Regime" (faculty, staff, and administration) completely REPULSIVE!! I cannot believe they did not FIRE him, but instead, just sent him to Counseling and then PROMOTED him to be the Head of one of their Schools! It's OUTRAGEOUS!!! This scandal should definitely hurt their reputation and enrollments ... What parent with a good conscious would want their child(ren) to attend a school with such LOW MORALS?!?

Why insult the whole group of parents who happen to send their kids to the school? Why imply that they do not have a good conscious?
Why use all caps for those certain words? Didn't all of this happen quite some time ago? If so, how will that hurt enrollment now? |

I understand your outrage but please remember that NO ONE involved in any of this story has worked at the school in at least 20 years. |

The poster to whom I think you were responding did say that "no one involved in this story" has been at Potomac for 20 years. I'm sure there are a few people who have been there over 25 years, but if they were not in a position to deal with the issues in the story, that's not really relevant. An Admissions Director is not supervising faculty, making faculty hiring/firing decisions, giving references for a faculty member to other employers, or even being in a position to observe teacher-student interaction, generally. |

How can you make that assumption without truly knowing? Do we really "know" which administrators, faculty, and staff were involved in this case? And whether they are still at the Potomac School? I think Potomac is doing a good job of addressing the "sins of the fathers." There's nothing they can do now about what happened in the past - but at least they can investigate, apologize, and make sure it never happens again.
The approach they are taking now is the exact opposite of the cover-up that happened in the past and made such abuse possible. Not sure what else they can do. |

NO headmasters involved in the Kloman story has been at the school for many years. You are taking this too far. Of course we will never know 100% of who knew what and when, but the key players who would be responsible for this (ie headmasters) have been gone for ages. The investigation spoke with 240 people to get as much info as possible. In terms of the three other allegations, the school has taken that information to the police and it is not about anyone who currently works at the school. What else do you want?

Calm down, Josephine McCarthy. If your child goes there, apply him/her out if you like. If Potomac was on your list, cross it off if you like. Based upon the Post reporting, the school has been unusually transparent in its response and clearly is taking things seriously. Absent the invention of a time machine (which would be booked up for months in advance with people going back to try to kill Hitler), probably that is all that can be done. |

Seriously?? Are you CRAZY?!!! We have 2 children in Catholic middle school now and were considering sending them to Potomac since we have friends who send their kids there. But after learning about what went on there and how the administration covered it up, there is NO WAAAAY, I'm sending my kids there! It took over 30 years for this to unravel ... who know what other scandals might be uncovered at Potomac School in another 30+ years?! |

I do not have any vested interest in Potomac but believe the present administration of the school is handling the situation they inherited honestly, with thoughtfulness and is committed to never letting this happen again.
With that said, I hope the board understands it is not okay to let any past members of their community off the hook who was aware of this monster's sickening & perverse abuse of power. At some point any & all Kloman's peers of who looked the other way, must be considered a part of his crime against minors if this school is going to truly move forward. Either the state should go after them; or the present board should go after his contemporaries (inc. former heads of school board members if they looked the other way). |
