I have to put a plug in for my daughter's school- an all-girl public charter located in Anacostia (right off 295). They started last year (pk3, pk4 and K) and will add a grade every year until 8th. It has a very academically and socially rigorous curriculum and my daughter is thriving! During the summer before my daughter started, her two teachers came to our home to get to know us, to give my daughter an assessment so they would know where they needed to focus their teaching and to answer any questions we had- I have been so impressed with the caliber of the teachers and with the principle and only wish I could somehow send my son there! ![]() |
I checked out their website. And they look rather interesting... And plus, I'm a huge fan of the all-girls schools... (Older daughter attends NCS)
Do you know how many K-4 spots are open? I'm still in search of the perfect school for my daughter. |
Not sure how many spots they will have next year, but i would recommend talking to the principal- Caroline- She is very approachable, and will answer any questions you might have. It has definitely been the right choice for my daughter, and they have definitely responded to her individual needs. |
SO glad to hear an option like this is out there. A woman I went to B-school with came from an all-girl's high school and women's college. She found it extraordinary preparation for developing confidence and assertiveness, especially in traditionally male subjects like math and business.
I hope the school does well! |
OMG! Thanks for mentioning this school OP. Even though I have sons, this shows what some schools can do with the right leadership. A principal from KIPP and TFA is likely no slouch. I will definitely be asking about this level of teacher interaction at schools we're applying to. |
NP! I can't say enough positive about our experiences with Excel Academy. And your points about teacher interaction and strong leadership are right on target- both have been instrumental in Excel's success. |
