HS start times - what happened?

What ever happened with the high school start times?
Was there any conclusion?

I think it's still on the table. I never got any surveys or anything, although my kid will be HS age by the time this goes into effect, if it is passed. If I understand correctly, it will be up for vote this fall (I think?).

I like NONE of the 4 options listed. Last night, while watching the SB meeting, a rising junior from Chantilly HS spoke, quite eloquently, on the issue, and said he supports Option 5, which is to do nothing. (Apparently someone proposed Option 5 at some point in time - whether it was last night before I started watching the meeting or at some point earlier, I don't know.)

I will be writing to my SB reps to voice my concerns. Doing away with the early release Mondays, I can live with even though I don't like it. The change of the HS and MS times, NO WAY...

I think they are considering it for 2015 school yr.

Don't you think it's odd that they did away with half day Mondays before voting on high school start times?

Yes. For what's it worth, I pointed this out as a reason to not go to full day Mondays until the start times are resolved.

I have a feeling that many parents will want half day Mondays back if elementary school starts much later.

The kid from Chantilly HS was quite good. Was an Option 5 even formally announced?

No. Our elementary school already starts late -- the bell isn't until 9:10. It has no impact on whether or not there's school monday afternoons.

12:41PP here... the first I ever even heard of Option 5 was when the Chantilly HS kid mentioned it.

Yes, for schools like yours and mine (with a 9:15 bell), it won't be that harsh... but for those used to earlier bell schedules, it might be quite the adjustment.

None of the proposals have elementary schools starting later than they do now.

But some individual elementary schools will start later than they do now, if one of those proposals goes through.

School start times are always subject to change depending on bus needs -- ours changed last year to 20 minutes earlier than it had been in 2012. You half-day Monday folks are really grasping for straws.

When will we be able to find out about this? I am really hoping for a late start time, not so I can sleep in but so that I can get back home in time from dropping off my other children and so that I can send my other DC off to school with a proper goodbye! Wouldn't that be convenient!

I think it's on the School Board calendar for the July mtg... (July 27th??). It's noted on the front of www.fcps.edu.
