Gaining weight while TTC

Anonymous
Has anyone else had a huge weight gain since starting infertility treatments?
I started in January with IUI/Clomid, Ovidrel shot and progesterone suppositories and we got pregnant. Lost the pregnancy in March. Started again in May same regimen no luck, and then again in June no luck.
I've gained over 30 pounds since January!!!
Should I take a month off to shake some of this weight? I'm 40 and don't want to waste much more time, but the weight gain is completely adding to the depression of not conceiving.

Yes. There was just a thread on this not that long ago. I gained 5 pounds per cycle over the course of 5 cycles over 4 years (and some procedures and a couple IUIs, etc.). I've lost none of it. It's very depressing. That said, I would not wait until you've lost weight. Age is your enemy in TTC.

Last month was my first time taking (oral) progesterone and it instantly made my stomach majorly flabby and bloated. Once I got my period and stopped taking them a week later I was down to my normal size. So my opinion is that stuff bloats you like crazy, it may not even be "real' weight that you're carrying.

OP, since you are 40, please don't waste time in losing weight that is gained due to fertility medications. It will not go down very fast. As PP said, there was another thread about this recently and I posted in it. My bones have become fat after treatments, my overall body structure has become broader and I am not able to lose a single pound after regular exercising and healthy diet.

I am 9:34 again. I would like to add that you can exercise while you are getting treated for infertility and eat healthy and "tasty" food that will keep you happy. The weight may not go down drastically but the feeling of flexibility and stamina in the body will definitely help you.

Ugh, I feel your pain. Dealing with two back to back miscarriages on top of fertility treatment. I gained weight with the supplements and then with the pregnancy and then with the aftermath of the miscarriages. I'm at my highest ever. I did think about postponing, but like you, I am 40 (as of next week, yikes!) and don't have much time. I would focus on eating a "pregnancy friendly" diet and getting some form of exercise everyday even if it's walking. It's easier said than done because right now I feel terrible about my body. Because of our ages, unfortunately, it will take a long time to get this weight off - so it's not worth it to postpone.

OP here, thank you all for responding. I was considering giving my body, bank account and anxiety a break this month. But, I am going to continue to eat better and start to get more exercise into my daily routine (hopefully that will help). You are all right, there isn't a moment to lose.
Thanks again.

2 back to back miscarriages here, too. I am JUST NOW getting back to my normal weight and the 1st m/c was in November 2013. Also, my boobs now have stretch marks from where they grew so much so fast and I have nothing to show for it. So depressing!

Yes - I gained about 2-3 lbs each IUI cycles and 5-8 with the IVF cycles. I'm sure some of it was drug induced, but some of it must have been emotional because I found it SO hard to exercise and eat right with all the emotional distress, and the sore butt.
