Do public schools in DC provide transportation for children?
I live 1.7 miles away from the school I'm thinking about sending my daughter. She'll be four. I really need to get her on a bus, because I have to leave by 7:30 to get my older daughter to school in time, and then get to work myself by 8:15. My husband has to be at work by 7, so you see I'm stuck. As it currently is, We leave at 7:00. o.o Also, do you know if there are rules as to who must wait with children or on them? |
Edit:
I'm totally clueless on many aspects of DC. Are there any alternatives if they don't provide transportation? (Which I'm gandering they don't...) Where I used to live, k4-2nd grade got a bus outside of .5 mile from the school, 3-6th got one outside of 1 mile, and 7th-12th got one outside of 1.5 miles. |
I think the buses are only for special education. |
Any alternatives? |
Check out the before school care situation. Our school has a before school extended day, but I do not think it starts that early. But I do think some schools do, and some kids at our school are in other extended day options at local churches which may start early, but I doubt any of them start at 7 am. |
Most schools (that I've heard of anyway, but I don't pretend to know everything) start beforecare around 8am. I don't think anybody starts earlier than 7:30. |
Really your only bet will be to find a neighbor who you can drop your child off with that will then take her to school. Since your husband starts work at 7am he could probably pick your child and the neighbor's child up from school and bring them home. A nice, even excahnge. |
