DC neighborhood that reminds you of NYC?

Anonymous
I know there's no comparison but is there any neighborhood here that makes you feel like you could be in NYC?

Where in NYC? This is a ridiculous question.

Georgetown reminds me a little of Soho where my dd lives.

It's not ridiculous. Different parts of DC have different vibes and so do diff parts of NYC. Do any two give off similar vibes in your opinion?

Any NYC neighborhood in particular?

Good luck with that, OP.

My husband, who lived in NYC for many years, likes the urban vibe of the 14th Street/Logan Circle area--still in the middle of gentrifying, new/trendy restaurants and bars (not chains), people in more interesting fashion, etc. That said, he's always complaining about how much he misses NYC, so it's clearly not a perfect match.

DC can not and will never be as cool as NYC!

Exactly. NYC has lots of poor areas, worst slums you could imagine

Signed, DC born and raised and probably never left for longer than a military base post elsewhere.

When Andrew Sullivan moved up to NYC and expressed his distaste for his 'hood in Manhattan, his readers urged him to move to Brooklyn, which they suggested was similar to Adams Morgan. Sullivan agreed, although he hated NYC and ultimately returned to DC. And before the same exact "everything is better in nyc and if you don't agree you must be a lame local" jumps in, let me add that Sullivan is British, born and raised in London.

Anyway, apparently the more upscale parts of Brooklyn (park slope etc.) and Adams Morgan have similarities, although i'm not a fan of either area.

I used to live in NYC (UWS)and now l live in U street and feel U street has more of what I loved about NYC than my old neighborhood- great restaurants, gym and grocery stores a few blocks away, fun vibe, diversity, hipsters.

Oh God, I hope the NYC is so much better folks don't come on here again. No one compares the two cities except New Yorkers. DC is DC, it doesn't want to be New York. Why not compare it to Miami or Morgantown, WV. Just enjoy it for what it is or move where you would be happier.

Shaw reminds me a lot of some parts of Brooklyn.

Oh no, there is most certainly more than one "you must be a local" poster. It is never used in a flattering tone, funny.
