I just retiled a bathroom, but the tub was in great shape (it is very rarely used). with the new tile on the walls, the tub now looks dingy and definitely needs to be a brighter white. Does anyone know how much it costs to reglaze a tub and, also, will it harm the new tile we put in?

| I would just rip out the bathtub, you won't disturb that much tile |

It's not expensive, <$500, but it will only last about 5 yrs. At which point it will start to peel and look terrible. I know from experience.
No idea how much it would cost to replace just the tub. I can't imagine it is easy to remove a tub in a tight space and not disturb the tile. |
| don't do it. Ours peeled and looked terrible almost immediately. And once you do it there is no going back you have to keep doing it. The regular old tub is a better option, especially if it is a an older metal one which they don't make anymore (if it is a newer plastic tub, who cares. coat it, rip it out, no matter). |
| Does it only last 5 years if it is never used? We have lived in our house for 8 years and have used that bathtub one time. |
Not sure. Ours was heavily used and peeled immediately. In addition to peeling, there is issues with it looking dingy and dirty. Cleaning it can also damage the finish. |
if it is really never used then it should last much longer/forever. Mine lasted 5 yrs with daily use. when it is used you have to be very careful about not using any bath mats, letting water stand too long or using abrasive cleaners. |
You also can't use bleach. Which was a problem for us, because our kids were tub poopers. |
