| are these two areas different or different name for same area? |
| Next to each other but different. Takoma is north of Brightwood and has more detached SFH. Brightwood is mainly semi-detached townhomes. |

Brightwood seems to have many many more rental apartments than takoma dc. This impacts density, schools and the potentially transient feel of the area.
Also, relatedly, the Hispanic center of dc has moved north, approaching Brightwood, due to changes in Columbia Hts/ Adams Morgan/ MtP. See Brightwood elementary. |
| I live in the 16th St heights (which I love) but between Brightwood and Takoma, I'd probably choose Takoma because of the metro. |
|
Brightwood isn't metro accessible, Takoma is.
Brightwood Elementary is not that great. Takoma is getting better and great for EC. Brightwood has more row houses and homes. Takoma has homes and some apartments. Several shiny new buildings coming this year to Carroll St. Brightwood doesn't have much commerce. Takoma around the metro has some and us getting more (busboys and poets, etc...) Takoma is a bit pricier. Takoma rec cente is accessible to North Brightwood. |

As a Brightwood owner some points above valid, most not. So pros of living in Brightwood (proper)
-In between two major streets (16 th & Georgia so easy access to all major points in city +several major bus routes) yet still very quite (if anything I'm more annoyed by birds than traffic noise) - immediate access to rock creek park trails, golfs course & weekend running/biking on beach dr - mix of attached, apts and detached homes. -very close to Walter reed development (please come wegmans!) -just under 1 mile to metro (walkable) -immediate access to retail along Georgia ave (getting better but currently includes Safeway, Walmart, Wapa Cafe, Chocolate crust, simple bar & grill, CVS) -awesome park at Ft Stevens -ample street parking -large detached homes with reasonable ( but rising) prices -after living here for 5 years the neighborhood is increasingly having more families but still a nice mix of long time residents who keep their houses & yards tidy I do believe Brightwood is one of those last hidden gems that's about to get really popular with the WR development. Takoma is nice too, FYI. |
