| Does EVERY dog get ticks even with those treatments? How often does your dog have ticks? |
|
Once in the five years we have had her. Found the tick on her, not in the house.
We use Frontline Plus. |
| Never. Dog is 11 years old. |
| At least 2-3 times a summer. We do lots of off leash hiking though. |
| You are making me feel better. We are boring and haven't taken long hikes in the woods since before we have kids. We would just be walking around the neighborhood and going to dog parks now and then. |
| My dog gets Frontline and it seems to work around town and doing some hiking. I took her to my family's farm for 2 weeks and pulled off 5. I felt bad until I realized I could see ticks literally walking across the cement in the garage. When they're that thick, the dog is bound to pick up one or two each day. |
| Twice in 3 years. |
| Rare. We live in the country, use Frontline Plus. |
| Pretty much every day. I use Frontline, but will try Advantix now on the advice of a friend. |
Do you live in the country or hike in the woods often? |
| Never. Our dog is 16. |
| There are plenty of ticks on the trails around Lake Needwood and Lake Frank in Rockville. We used to go there a lot when our dog was younger. Using Frontline/K9 will kill the ticks when they bite, so they should fall off. However if your dog has a dense coat some ticks may still hitch a ride. |
| Found one in 7 years. My vet told us we could skip the Frontline in December-January-February. We found a tick on the dog in February. Now she gets Frontline year round, and no ticks. |
|
OUr pup is allergic to the tick treatments. We were getting ticks daily (in our backyard) until we treated the backyard for ticks. Now it's down to once a week.
I heard they have come out with a pill for tick treatment - going to ask my vet if its an option next time I go. also heard about a Lyme disease vaccine... |
Never, but we don't go tromping through the woods. She is a couch potato and prefers indoor life. |
