Jute rugs in livingroom

Do you have one? If so, what are the pros and cons? I love the look but wonder if the rug will be messy and uncomfortable (we sit on the carpet a lot to play games with the kids).

I have one. It's rough underfoot and a nightmare to keep clean. I love the look but it's not very practical.

If you get one make sure you get a rug pad. my sisters rug ruined her hardwoods because the pad she purchased wasn't think enough.

We have one and I love it. I don't find it uncomfortable, it doesn't shred, and it is easy to vacuum.

+1, although I don't even love the look anymore because it's so impractical and uncomfortable with kids.

We have sisal, not jute, and it vacuums like a dream. Swoosh, swoosh, it looks new. When we got it I assumed we'd just replace it periodically but I don't think we'll have to for a long time. And we have it right in front of the door to catch the dirt.

Jute is thicker and rougher than sisal. Maybe that's why it's harder to keep clean?

Stains do NOT come out. Never again.

I've had sisal, sea grass and jute. Jute is a little messy in my opinion - too many fibers flying around. Sisal is too cold. I prefer bound sea grass with a pad underneath. Only my personal opinion.

You can get a neutral wool rug that looks the same, but is nicer to sit on and easier to clean.

Pros:
They hide dirt well.
Can be relatively inexpensively replaced.

Cons:
They collect dirt well.
If you have a pet or child that vomits on them, it is very hard to get out.
