| Did anyone go? Any word on when there will be a real trial? Will any of the other teachers or the principal who placed him on restrictions but determined that he could continue to have access to the kids be called to testify??? |
Can you provide more information? |
|
I haven't heard any of this.
What does it mean to be "on restriction" as a teacher? I teach for MCPS and I have no idea what you are talking about. |
You're an MCPS teacher and did not hear about this? I'm an MCPS teacher and could not escape hearing about it. Look up the case. The principal and others knew/suspected something "iffy" at best was going on, but did things like making him keep his door open and not allowing him to be alone with individual students, rather than getting the police involved or actually protecting kids. Lawrence Joynes, New Hampshire Estates ES. Google it. |
Maybe she didn't understand because the original post is a mess. |
This. Yes, I heard about the music teacher at NH Estates, but wasn't his trial a while back? The OP made me think that a trial had just occurred. If one has, I missed it in the flurry of grading finals and packing up my classroom for the summer. |
| BTW, I still don't know what it means to be on restriction as a teacher. I know that some teachers are on PAR and others are forced to take administrative leave, but is there another category of being disciplined? |
| There was a pretrial conference in MoCo yesterday, I thought. The earlier trial or proceeding may have been in Baltimore. No need to be catty about the original post. It was a question about a hearing. The best part about the restrictions is that they don't tell the parents. The principal decided not to let parents know that the school leadership didn't trust him alone with students. |

He has two trials coming up. One in August and one in October I think. Apparently there had been complaints by parents, and the result was that he was not allowed to be one with children with the door closed, or permitted to touch them etc. Nevertheless with these restrictions in place, the abuse allegedly occurred during school hours.
We will find out which mcps officials are testifying at the trial. I hope that some of the affected families plan to sue MCPS as well. |

The last time that Joynes was in court was in February. There was a status hearing yesterday where Joynes did not need to be present. His trial date is August 25th which is scheduled to be a fourteen day jury trial.
All of you could have looked this up on the court website. |
I think the question was whether anyone went. Thank you for the update. |
| Yes, there are MCPS teachers who want to attend and are willing to testify. However, the trial is scheduled for the first week of school. I suspect that is no coinidence. |
Right. The scheduling clerk is in cahoots with.....somebody. ? Take leave and go. |
| And then people bitch on the blogs about their kids' teachers missing the first 2 weeks of school. |
