Nope. There are older women with kids and better bodies (Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, Angelina Jolie, JLo, Halle Berry etc.) Lauryn Hill has 7 kids, is 45 y/o and looks amazing - I don't see anyone picking on her, right?

Are they pretending to be someone they are not?

Probably to some extent, yes.

To this extent?

I think....KNOW that narcissistic liars do NOT like being called out. Period.

Thank. You. DCUM.

I took a break from DCUM for a couple weeks and imagine my surprise two days ago when I see the hilaria thread had grown to almost 200 pages. I've been catching up since then and finally made it to the end. Been following this since the miscarriage/nivea when I went back to page 1 and read through. The last time I was here I was commenting that I thought her people had started commenting on the thread and of course some people said that was a crazy idea. So happy the story broke and now I'm heading to reddit.

Cindy Crawford definitely pretends to part Bahamian because so many photo shoots during her modeling career qualify her as dual culture. Same with Elle Macpherson. They were just speaking in Bahamian about the conch recipe from their ancestors from the islands. Angelina Jolie was just struggling with how to say cookie in English from her dual residency in France.

So much embarrassment, anxiety over how her husband is reacting to her lies, her brand being upended, and is also taking care of five kids(granted with 5 nannies but still that’s a lot).

Well, the best way to avoid the pain of that humiliation is to not lie in the first place. What did she think would happen???

No kidding, but the punishment in this case is way out of proportion with the crime. I feel sorry for her and while she shouldn’t have lied, I wonder if she actually hurt anyone - or did this to hurt anyone. And in the scheme of things, there are so many awful humans in the world. Hilaria’s not one of them, regardless of her considerable flaws.

While this story is tantalizing, she’s being bullied and savagely ridiculed for no decent reason.

How exactly is she being punished??!?!? She's not being arrested or even lost any endorsements that I am aware of. If nothing else she's getting a ton more publicity! Stop acting like she's some sort of innocent victim. No one has ever died of humiliation.

Again, if she were not a slim, active, attractive, wealthy white American woman I wonder if people would be imploring others to have this same level of compassion.

Actually, people have died following humiliation - by suicide among other things. And they anonymous cyber bullying has exacerbated this phenomenon. Literally, as social media usage ticked up so have suicide rates. So, yes, needlessly crushing and piling on someone isn’t without impact. This woman was a fake and she lied. But she didn’t steal anyone’s 401k money or stab anyone to death or steal someone’s husband or abuse her kids. She lied. And I’d feel the same compassion for a POC, too, particularly as I am one.

Social media will be the end of us. I honestly wish we could go back in time prior to SM. It sucks, it’s pointless, it causes more harm than good. She is a victim of social media and our warped society.

Honestly, if you get off all social media you simply do not miss it. And it’s much easier to not feel as bad about its destruction when you are out of the loop.

Yup, not on it and never will be. I see others on it and how annoyingly fake it all is, it is all fake. People and their happy families posing, posing, posing, taking selfie after selfie after f’ing selfie. Oh, look at me, look at meeeeee! Isumy life great! Look at my stinking feet on the beach, by the fire, in the f’ing bathtub. Look at my sh!t food! I am drinking a cappuccino now, wowwoo! It’s all so nauseating and narcissistic, all. of. it. Hilaria got caught up in it like sooooo many others.

You're an idiot. Comparing a large-scale liar like Hillary with a suburban mom who occasionally posts photos of her family is laughable.

What punishment? Is she losing her home? Her children? Her materials goods? No. She will be fine.

Gosh, you have a really superficial view of what matters. Hint, people can be hurt terribly and still keep their material goods. Do you not imagine people suffer terribly psychologically and emotionally from the nastiness of these witch hunts / cancel culture mobs? I’m not condoning HB’s lies, but her “crime” was very limited compared to the damage she’ll sustain. I hope she survives.

The pile on will reach to an inflection point and she will start garnering sympathy. Pretending to be of a different background is tacky and some specific groups may or may not feel aggrieved by it but I don't think most people are losing sleep over this. I'm an immigrant POC of color with an accent that I've never felt the need to try to lose. I find what she did comical but I don't feel harmed by it. I also think it's unlikely her husband doesn't know her true background so I doubt he has been duped for the duration of the marriage.

Yeah, I think what she did is really baffling and it's obvious she has an inferiority complex and felt the need to take on a different persona. She's doing a terrible job trying to save face. I don't think she's fooling anyone at this point, and it's safe to say that she's beyond embarrassed due to the extreme public humiliation that she's experiencing right now. That said, I think enough is enough. Leave her be. The punishment no longer fits the crime. She didn't hurt anyone except herself. Time to move on.

You should advise Hillary to stop talking about it. She's the one driving it all.

Actually it's just starting for Hilaria. She criticized CAA today. That is the end for her AND Alec.

Yep. They'd never have represented Hillary if she wasn't Alec wife and now blaming them for her lying, oy.

It's telling that she will not do the one thing that would stop this: admit she got carried away with the Spanish shtick and apologize for the confusion SHE sowed. Why should we feel bad for her when she blames the media (didn't report accurately), CAA (created a "sloppy" bio that "disappointed" her, and us (we don't have the "attention span" to understand her in her complex beauty). Why ffs is she the only one, apparently in America, to get a pass? I did feel sorry for her but that NYT article put a fork in it. She's a witch!

The truth is that people have been "passing" as different things for different reasons for ages; in the short term they might suffer but I think they eventually recover and go on with their lives..she will be fine.

Yes. There are. There are Donald Trump, the broke businessman, and Melania, the genius immigrant. The irony that AB is so closely behaving like his nemesis.

Nope. Totally not true. People who are frauds and liars do this, it's not a "oh everyone does this," thing. She won't go away but nobody's going to work with her now. She wasn't that important to begin with career-wise.
