Best time to visit Carmel in California?

Wondering if now, end of summer, or fall is better. I would like I avoid extreme heat if possible.

It hardly ever freezes, but it's by the sea and foggy, even in mid summer it gets cool especially at night. That's why its such a great place to grow artichokes. It's always a good time to go to Carmel.

Seriously, there's no bad time.

Except for the crowds. Avoid summer weekends. It was unbearably crowded last time I visited at that time of year.

Be careful, now that Clint is no longer patrolling the streets.

Any time.

I wanted to love it but it just seemed like Alexandria on a hill, with a lot of expensive soap shops and no cute sandwich shops. Sidewalks were very crowded. We were with kids and couldn't find anywhere to eat (and our kids are pretty easy).
Loved 17-mile drive and pebble beach.

I live up the road In Monterey (moved about a year ago.) Its great all year long but late Sept/early October is the best! Practically no fog, fewer people and temps in the 70's.

It's never *hot* the way it is in DC.

September/October are my favorite times to visit, but it can also be really nice (and warm!) in February, which is a welcome break.

Wish Alexandria were Carmel, LOL. That would be cool, then instead of Stafford we'd have Big Sur. Why did I ever leave oh right, work.

This. I'm from that area and would love to move back. Unfortunately, both my husband and I have "industry" jobs in this stupid humid hellhole (which I usually like... but today I am hot and sweaty).

Thanks everyone! We will go in September.

Agree! If only.....all we need is a Ocean, fabulous weather, great shops, beautiful gardens/flowers where anything can grow... I could go on and on....
