Dry needling/Acupuncture - need help!

Anonymous
Hey sporty DCUMs,

I am at my wits end with an IT band injury from running. Have any of you ever tried/liked/hated dry needling or acupuncture? Does it work? Does it hurt? Any advice for me? Any recommendations in Montgomery County or DC?

Thank you!!!

Yes, I have had multiple sessions of dry needling. Make no mistake, it hurts like hell when it hits the troubled spots in your muscles, but it does help, especially repeated sessions.

I was with Nirschl Orthopedic and the Virginia Sports Medicine Institute at VHC, so that probably doesn't help you, but Elisa is phenomenal.

Better yet, find a physical therapist certified in MFR (myofascial release). I once saw a traditional PT for several months for a knee injury and had no improvement. I saw an MFR therapist one time and walked out of the door pain free. Not saying that one treatment is all you will ever need, but it has been much more effective for me.

Olivier Pelletier did deep tissue release in my IT bands. Gone after two sessions. Hurt like hell in a good way. He's a cmt and has godlike hands.

Do you do foam rolling?

I have had both but at a place in Reston, Va. Therapy and Fitness Center. Acupuncture helped so-so -- does not hurt. I think I needed to go more Dry needling hurts like hell but for a few seconds, less than 10, but did help quite a bit. Rich or Larry, best pt's on the planet. I live and work in MoCo and have been going to see them off and on for 10 years for chronic injuries.

I would rec dry needling for IT band. It does hurt when they hit a spot but its overall really not that bad. Supposed to be better than massage or foam rolling for getting those areas worked out. I used my PT.
