Fun, funky, casual brunch in DC or MD?

Are there any interesting brunch places in DC or Maryland (not diners, more eclectic) that would be kid-friendly?

We moved here recently and are craving good brunch--good coffee, unusual recipes, funky atmosphere....

I've heard good things about Colorado Kitchen in upper DC (east of the park), and I get the impression it's a real neighborhood place so would probably be kid-friendly.

Colorado Kitchen has a line out the door (seriously) for brunch every weekend. I don't know why, since the owner/chef is as mean as a snake and is particularly rude to families with children. I'll never go back, and neither will several of my friends. Tabard Inn has a nice brunch, and I'd also recommend Busboys and Poets on 14th Street (fun and family friendly, with a definite alternative vibe).

Mayorga coffee house in Silver Spring (directly on George Ave. about 3/4 mile south of the downtown area) does a good brunch on Sundays, plus they have a kids area with toys. I think it could be described as eclectic, plus they have lots of big comfortable sofas that you can sit on while eating your brunch! It is one of our favorite weekend activities.

It's kind of diner-ish, but you should try Luna Grill in Dupont (Conn just up from N). Good coffee and great brunch food and a much larger menu. If you go there at kid-brunch time (i.e. 11 am or earlier), you should have no trouble getting a seat.

Meze in Adams Morgan has a terrific brunch (amazingly good fresh cinnamon bread in the french toast) and is very kid friendly. Service is a little mixed, but I think it's a great place overall.

Open City Diner in Woodley Park. I know you said no diners - but this diner is more of a restaurant than typical diner. It gets very crowded, but I think that's the way it is at all brunch places in the city! Also, Kramerbooks in DuPont is great for brunch.

Does Perry's still have that vaudville show brunch on Sundays?? I have never been but heard it was a hoot--I think it's a bunch of guys doing singing impersonations and apparently they are very good. Again, I haven't been but heard good things.

I second Luna Grill and Diner on Conn. Ave. south of Dupont. They also have one in Shirlington Village. Good, reasonable priced food and very kid friendly.

Georgia Brown's has a jazz brunch and back in the day (I'm talking 10 plus years) there was a bbq restaurant in Georgetown that had a gospel brunch that was fun. I can't think of the name though ...
