Does anyone have a full list of tests that K-3 graders take in MCPS?

I find it so strange that the school tests the kids and do not share all the results with parents or even tell the parents that they are being tested for some tests.
Map-P = K or is it Map R and Map M? Map-M, Map-R, 1-5? 3 times a year? Inview - just 2nd grade? MSA PARCC Compacted Math 3rd only? |

I work for MCPS. MAP-P is for students in K-2. They take this on the computer either 2 or 3 times a year (the winter administration is optional by school) MAP-R and MAP-M are for students in 3-5. This is also taken on the computer 2 or 3 times a year. Up through this year, MAP-M was optional by school, so not all schools gave it. We don't have any significant use for MAP-M data at school, so some viewed it as a waste of time. InView is part of the global screening process in 2nd grade. The state of MD requires that all districts complete global screening (to make Gifted and Talented identifications), and MCPS uses InView as the test component. InView scores are one of the criteria for G/T designation. This was the last year MSA was given. Next year, students in grades 3-5 will take PARCC as the state test. Again, the state (really the federal government) requires that there is a standardized test given to all students every year. Students in K-2 also take MCPS-AP (otherwise known as mClass) three times per year, which tests reading performance based on accuracy, fluency, oral comprehension, and written comprehension. Compacted math is not a test per se. Students are given a series of 5 tasks to complete, either as part of instruction or in a smaller group. Again, the 5 tasks are one of the criteria used to determine is Compacted math is the best placement for a student. Only a group of students identified by 3rd grade teachers are even given the tasks - first the 3rd grade teachers look at a student's current performance in 3rd grade math, their report card grades from 2nd grade and the beginning of 3rd grade, and their InView quantitative reasoning score. |

| We have only had Map-R sent home in 3rd grade, never for the other grades. We received the Inview scores with a letter of GT designation in 2nd grade. We received a letter with DC's compacted math score but never knew that DC was being tested for it. |

Geez. Rising K'er here. Can't believe someone is going to test my kid on a computer this coming year. All it's going to tell them is that this kid's parents decided not to train her on computers until she's older.

Right. Because I really need to see how it goes before I can conclude that testing a K'er doesn't tell you much anyway (already more than proven that these sorts of tests are meaningless until 8 years old) and that testing a kid on a computer who doesn't use computer is going to have results that are questionable at best. Nope, I think I got it. |
