| I hate how all this rain has made our weeds grow like crazy. The plants are doing well too, but the weeds are growing like, well, weeds. As soon as I get an area cleared of weeds, it rains for a few days and new weeds have already grown! ARGH!!! I will kill you, roots and all!!! |

Mulch.
Because there are things I'd rather do than weed.
|
| You need to spot treat or pull up the weeds. |
| Mulch doesn't always work. You have to pull, pull, pull. |
| My problem is I get tons of weeds that come in from me neighbors yards. My mom wants to spray them but I keep telling her no. It's very frustrating though because I can't really keep them at bay from the root. |
OP here. Yes, this is why it's so annoying--pull, pull, pull, even with mulch! I'm training my 2 year old to pull weeds out of the patio
|
Me too. small weeds everywhere and I thoroughly mulched. |
Try a different kind of mulch -- leaves, for example, or grass clippings. |
| Put down weed block fabric. |
+1 we did this in our larger planting beds and weeds are minimal except the bed with the rose of sharon- those little babies spread everywhere: in my mulch, window boxes, etc. |
| I put layers of newspaper down before mulching (every other year/so) and it greatly reduces the weeds. What it doesn't seem to help with is the neighbor's zoysia grass. I have a large bed between our driveway and their yard. I made a small trench between the bed and their yard to define the bed. I then spray the trench with roundup twice a year to kill the zoysia. I still have to dig some out but it's much easier. |
| It's June. Weedy grow like crazy in June and July. Things settle down by August, when the rain ends. |
| Newspaper and even cardboard underneath mulch works really well. If you put cardboard and newspaper down toward the end of the season you'll see less weeds the following year. Worked really well for me last year. Areas where I used to have weeds are not a major problem this year. |
Huh, cardboard. That sounds like a good idea. I was just thinking one could use cereal boxes if one doesnt have the thicker stuff around. |
| Crazy, isn't it? I weeded last weekend down near the mailbox. Drove up today - WTF? Time to start again. |
