Hi- we are considering putting our child in private- she's an October baby- she seems ready to go to kindergarden than go another year in preschool.
Does anyone know of a kindergarden in NoVA that accepts children born in Oct. (versus the 9/30 cut off like public school).. Thanks! |
I know that Montgomery County allows for readiness testing for early entrance to kindergarten for children born within 6 weeks of the age requirement deadline. Is this an option where you are? |
OP here- apparently not- wish they did since that seems like a great program. Which is why I was asking about going private one year..
I hope others have more info.- can add more - thank you! |
Rosslyn Children's Center has a wonderful Kindergarten program that accepts younger kids. The teacher there is absolutely wonderful and the ratio is great (this year I think it is something like 11 kids to 2 teachers). The downside is this is a full day daycare program, which you may not want, although it is fine to pick your child up early. Also, most of the kids in the class have come through the daycare program together and all know each other--they are almost all there because they did not make the public schook Kindergarten cutoff deadline. So that may be a concern. However, they do accept children new to the program.
I had one child go through this program previously and can't wait for my second child to go. It is such a creative, supportive and stimulating environment and my child (and all of her classmates) was so well prepared academically (probably much better prepared than) many of her counterparts in public school first grade, and more importantly, started school with a great attitude towards going to school generally. |
Congressional Schools (Seven Corners) adn Town and Country (Vienna) will both accept kids turning 5 in October, based on an evaluation. |
Kaye's Kare in East Falls Church, near the metro, has a kindergarten program...great curriculum and nurturing environment, only about $700 a month for fulltime care. My son missed the cut off date as well for Arlington Public Schools, and I am so glad I sent him to Kaye's...he is at the top of his class now in Kindergarten (public). |
OP here, actually, i wanted to send our child to kindergarden "early" (she missed age cut off by two weeks) but then put in her public for first grade- not re-enroll her in kindergarden for another year. I believe this can be done in state of VA? |
I can only speak for Fairfax County. They will consider a child who misses the Sept. 30 cut-off for 1st grade. I don't know what evaluation process they use, just know that they are willing to make exceptions. |
