| I was just curious...how often do you eat out or get fast food? We eat out at least 3 times a week but my husband travels a lot and doesn't want me cooking when he is home so we can spend more time together... I feel guilty because as a child I came from a very poor family and we never ate out. Now I am better off than my parents were but I feel guilty about eating out. I just don't have the time or energy most days to cook a meal. |
| We eat out once a week - generally on Saturday or Sunday. |
| On a busy/rough week, we'll get take out/delivery or eat out 4-5 nights a week. On a good/not so busy week, it's more like 2 nights. I try to keep it on the lower end, but with two working parents, one of whom really can't cook much, you can only do so much. We try to get the healthiest take out we can -- salads, mediterranean food, thai or vietnamese food. . . but yeah, it's sometimes Mexican or pizza. |
| Once or twice/month. |
| We eat at california tortilla once a week, usually get pizza once a week (although trying to cut down) and we eat at a better restuarant (like thai) once per week. It's not that great nutritionally although the fish tacos at calif tortilla seem relatively healthy with no sauces. I also worry about the money but we just can't get dinner on the table fast enough some nights. |
| Two or three times a week. |
If you'd like to cook more, why not have him join you in the kitchen? He can either chop vegetables or just sit and chat with you. |

why do you feel guilty? because I think the meals I can buy are frequently more nutritious than those I can cook in the limited time I have. and if i'm not spending time cooking, I get to spend more time enjoying both food and family!
if you're feeling guilty about the money, well don't feel guilty if you can afford it! I usually cook a big vat of something once a week and have it for leftovers a few nights. then throw something together quickly one-two nights a week. and get take-out the rest. little one LOVES falafel, and mild curries; so we can usually get something pretty healthy that pleases everyone. when DH travels for a week at a time (which happens once a month or so), things definitely fall off a cliff in terms of nutrition. ordering pizza, making breakfast for dinner, etc. |
| twice a week - saturday and sunday lunch. normally cheap kid-friendly ethnic places. |
If you don't have the energy to cook a meal, don't waste energy on feeling guilty. Do what works for now. |

DH and I order in usually one night per week on a night where we've had to feed DD early.
We only order out as a family or go out maybe 1x/mo. |
| We have no regular schedule with regards to dinner, so it varies. On average, we probably eat dinner out (or lunch on the weekends) together as a family 2-3 times/week. Lots of nights DH works late so he eats out somewhere on his own, I feed the munchkin dinner at home, and then eat dinner (or not) myself after DS goes to bed. Tonight was one of those nights, and I'm currently debating whether I should eat something or not. |
| Twice during weekend. When I used to work outside the home, I used to get exhausted often by evening, and carry out on some week days. |
| Usually take out one night during the week, and we'll eat out for one meal each weekend. We only go to "nice" places once a month though. Otherwise, it's casual sit-down places. |

Used to eat out once a month, but we have started doing 2xs a month since our elementary school does all those fundraising things and I like doing that to support the school and my dd loves seeing her friends.
3 times a week wouldn't fit in our budget and we all feel kind of bloated (well, me and dh) after eating out a lot. Why not focus on two times a week? Meal planning helps a ton! It doesn't take a long time to cook a healthy meal. |
