repair or replace dishwasher

I'm sure this post is a little premature, because we aren't sure what's wrong with it, but we have a Maytag dishwasher that I believe is from 2008 (when the previous owners renovated the kitchen) and it does NOT work well. We've tried everything, but dishes do not get cleaned in them, point blank.

Would it be worth it to get a repairman out and get it fixed, or just buy a new one? Honestly, if a repairman is going to charge us 350, we might as well just spend a bit more and buy a new one. But honestly, I don't know how much dishwasher repairs usually run people.

Anyone have any personal experience with this?

Replace it. I think consumer reports has a repair/ replace timeline for each appliance and it was about 4 years for most (but not all) appliances.

Sadly, dishwashers today only last about five years. I would plan to replace.

No don't. I had the same issue, with dishes not cleaning properly. There maybe debris collecting in a rotor blade( can't remember the exact name of the part) . Once I got that replaced, it worked fine

We were also able to fix an older dishwasher. Repairman found that something had become encrusted in lime deposits and wasn't closing properly, therefore it wasn't
cleaning or draining well. Entire thing cost about $50, which was his base repair call charge.

I hated that dishwasher, tho, and was actually sad that he got it working again!

Where do you live? Call Bettar Aplliance if you are near Kensington. They are awesome and really reasonably priced

OP here:

we checked for debris and my husband cleared that out. Didn't help. I will ask him about lime deposits. Maybe he can fix that. Not really sure. Unfortunately, we live in Northern Virginia, so not sure if the Kensington place would come out to us.

I actually hate this dishwasher too, so I'm more inclined to replace. But I hate waste, and I would hate to replace something that had an easy fix.
