Where to eat near Calvert Street

Anonymous
A friend will be in town, staying at the Omni on Calvert Street NW, and we want to have dinner in that general area.

Any suggestions for a nice and relatively reasonably-priced (entrees <$20) restaurant?

If the area is a food desert, any suggestions for someplace not too far away? It will be a Sunday evening and I'll be driving - I'm hoping that isn't much of an issue since it's not a weeknight.

Thanks.

There is a good Afghan restaurant right around the corner on Calvert that is reasonably priced and has good food. http://www.afghangrill.com/

Mama Ayesha's on Calvert towards Adams Morgan.

Open City diner right across the street is pretty good. Lebanese Taverna is a standby on Connecticut. You can also walk across the bridge to Adams Morgan and eat somewhere over there.

District Kitchen is also very good on Connecticut. It is around the corner from the Omni. Open City is good but if you are trying to get in on a weekend be prepared to wait. Lebanese Taverna is a good old standby. If you are willing to walk about a mile into Adams Morgan there are good restaurants there but my favorites are a bit more expensive. AM restaurants: Mintwood Place is fantastic but pricey. I haven't tried Roofer's Union yet but I love the chef's other restaurant Ripple, might also be pricey. Amsterdam Falafel is a great hole in the wall definitely within your budget. (they only have falafel and fries) Smoke and Barrel is good for BBQ and also within your budget. I haven't been to Mama Ayesha's but I know lots of people who love it. It has been there forever.

Walk up to Cleveland Park and go to...oh wait, there aren't any good restaurants left in CP. Never mind.

Mmmm...this makes me hungry.

OP, if you go there try the Aushak, Mantoo, and Kadu. Yum!

If the weather is nice, and you can get in, walk to Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan. It's a nice walk if it's not hot.

Roofer's Union is by the Ripple people? I totally must go.
It looks like it has a nice roof deck too.

Third rec fro Mama Ayesha's! We also love Tono Sushi. There's probably fancier sushi in DC, but it friendly, very fresh, and every meal I've had there has been excellent. They do a good happy hour, too.

So I love open city. I'm not sure the food is anything amazing but I love the vibe. I will say the coffee is excellent.

Mintwood Place is not a $20 and you would need a reservation.

I love Tono Sushi, too. There are nice restaurants in Woodley ...
