I'm a millenial (though on the older end of the generation) and Beyonce is such a shitty singer compared to Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton.
I was listening to some old Mariah and Toni this weekend and the difference is very stark. Skills, Talent, and ability transcends age - beyonce is just a poor artist. |

| Bey is famous because she is the whole package. Primarily a dancer, but she sings as well as most pop stars and acts as well as most starlets AND she has the media savvy to go with it. Add on top of that her brand (powerful, positive, female-centric) and she strikes a cultural chord in a way that someone who is a talented singer, but not multi-talented or brand-savvy (looking at you, Mariah) just doesn't. |

^I don't agree. For as big as the Beyonce machine is, she doesn't resonate. She has no hook.
She has a lot of publicity but doesn 't have star power once all of that blows over. When you hear a new Beyonce song, or see her in concert clips or in print there just isn't that *thing* that draw that bit of special. She feels like a part in the machine - Destiny's Child, collaborations, Jay-Z's other half, mom to 'Jay-Z and Beyonce's kid'. I don't feel like she's a standalone artist. Maybe she spreads herself too thin. I don't know, it's hard to define. |

| Sex sells, so does female empowerment. Her dad knew this and capitalized. She is where she is mainly because of him. Sans the nose job, the weave and the body work, she's still pretty, but not as beautiful. Her dad was a genius. Hooks like " you can't pay my bills", " all the women, who independent, and songs like survivor, single ladies, etc is why she is the machine she is today. |

It really is. Mariah has talent yet she dresses like a $2 hooker. I dont understand why someone like Mariah who has got talent and all that continues to attempt to cater to the teen crowd. Those teen kids are not feeling her. She should put some clothes on and sing. |

Mariah is talent. Beyonce is a performer. She performs. She takes Diva to a new level. She has better hair and makeup people and publicists. She is married to someone who knows the business from a different perspective, and is not afraid to whore it. So yeah, I guess that makes her more savvy. |
