What time to leave for the beach?

We are driving to the beach this weekend (Ocean City area). Probably on Saturday morning. Is it madness to leave here between 8 and 9 a.m.?

Dude, roll the kids out of bed at 4 in the morning, let them doze back to sleep in the car, you will be there before the traffic starts and have the whole day at the beach.

OP, we left DC last Saturday morning at 5:00 a.m. and had no traffic problems whatsoever. Friends followed 2.5 hours later and had it much worse. Get yourself and the kids out of bed EARLY and get going. You will be glad you did.

We are going to Rehobeth next Friday morning---do we need to be worried about leaving early or is 10 a.m. ok? thx

Personally I would not leave for Rehoboth at 10am. I'd leave much earlier.

Aside from the Bay Bridge, the two other bottlenecks I can see are the Rt.9 circle around Georgetown (Delaware) and route 1 south from Lewes to Rehoboth (right around the outlets).

We always leave around 8 am to go to Rehoboth (from VA) and haven't yet had any traffic issues.
