Summer breakfasts for athletes

Anonymous
Suggestions for a solid breakfast to eat about 2 hours before heavy lifting sessions. During the winter, I'd do oatmeal with walnuts and goji, plus a banana 30 minutes before workout session. I just can't bring myself to eat hot oatmeal in the summer, but not much else keeps me full until workout time without being too heavy. I'd Prefer to avoid dairy.

What do you eat when you're fueling for a hard workout?

My son likes to eat PB and J or eggs and toast, plus a smoothie with lots of frozen fruit and protein powder. He adds kefir to his smoothie but if you're avoiding dairy you could leave that out.

Soak the oatmeal in water overnight and it won't need cooking. Eat that with sliced banana.

What about baked oatmeal? You can make it so it's like crumbly bars, and then serve it cold with milk (or soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk etc . . . ) poured over it, or you can make it so it can be eaten out of your hand like a bar.

Try peanut butter.

I like to eat bircher muesli (very easy recipes online) and I also like having plain yogurt and mixing in berries, honey and walnuts/pecans (or seeds if you have a nut allergy). Surprisingly filling.

Plain cheerios with sliced banana is a good stand by too.

Granola with milk or yogurt? A smoothie (with plenty of protein/fiber)? I add chia seeds to both.
