| Hi all - Wondering if you have suggestions.... Our school is in the process of writing an OHI IEP for ADHD and emotional issues for a very bright soon-to-be 4th grader who requires nonstop attention and one of recommendations may be to move her to a school where she can get more individualized attention for all or portion of the day. Georgian Forest in Mtg County has been suggested. Going to visit tomorrow - don't know what to ask or look for when investigating a school for something like this (and advocate is not available right now to ask). Help! Suggestions? Thanks!!! |
| My big questions would be whether the children get mainstreamed at all and how often they use the quiet room. Depending on your child's academic ability, I would also ask how they meet each kid's needs since there are 2-3 grade levels in each ed class. Good luck! |
| Ask what a typical day is like. How do they handle discipline issues? How will they handle your child's particular issues? What happens if the program is working out for your child, will they let you know right away, will they suggest other programs (the ED program isn't right for every child)? Who should you contact with questions, e.g., the classroom teacher, the director, the social worker? |
| Sorry, I meant to say what if the program is not working out-- will they let you know right away... |
|
Another issue to keep in mind--how does your child deal with distractions. The ED type classes can be difficult for children who are easily distracted b/c of the other dc's behaviors.
I also strongly suggest showing up to observe the proposed classroom unannounced, and sitting in it for awhile to get a feel. |

This was helpful. Thanks all

Hello,
I am reviving this thread, hoping that OP or anyone knows about Georgian Forest could help us. DS is going to GF this year, suggested by IEP. Would you please share with us your experience? How about before and after school care? I wrote an email to Montgomery Child Care Association about their program, however I got back with forms to fill and not much about how the care would be, activities and food and such. Thank you very much in advance. Have a great weekend. |
