| Our school and now our summer camps are all "nut free". Fortunately, our school had a lunch program so my DD ate the school lunch. But now summer camp, too? I grew up with a PB&J in my lunch more often than not and my DD loves them. We also snack on nuts for a protein snack. What are other options for packed lunches that don't include nuts? Limitations: camp doesn't have a microwave so kids can't heat up a container and DD hates cold cuts. |
| Use sunflower seed butter - they sell it at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. I think it tastes better. |
| Are you in MD? |
+1. also, your kid will be fine if her lunch isn't chock full of protein every day. |
| Cheese sandwich. Hummus and pita bread. |
| Cheese cubes/sticks, diced chicken/turkey/ham, hard boiled eggs, yogurt. |

There's this nifty invention called a Thermos. It keeps things warm in a lunch box. No microwave required. Google it. Then buy one, and fill it with whatever foods besides PBJ that your children like.
My oldest loves PBJ but it's not a hardship to avoid that in the lunch box. And there are plenty of other snacks that are high in protein besides nuts. Your child must eat something other than peanut butter, right? |
| Mini bagels with cream cheese |
My 8 year old loves this. |
| Cheese, eggs, tuna, chicken salad... There are many high protein foods won't kill a peanut allergic child |
| I am at a loss too for my picky eater who loves peanut butter sandwiches. If I just made a grill cheese do you think that would that keep ok unrefrigerated until lunch time? He doesn't need it warmed up. |

Seriously, if you can't deal with this for the 10 weeks of summer camp, try dealing with it 52 weeks a year.
Signed, Mother of two nut allergy kids (no, I'm not imagining this, we've had vomiting, lost voices, hives and blood tests from doctors.) who is in the midst of the annual epipen collection/prescription update/camp form fill out/doctors office nightmare for 2 kids that will go to a number of different summer camps. PS at least it's not gluten |
| Peanuts are junk and horrible for your health. Consider it a blessing. |
| PBJ = garbage |
I'm happy to not eat them in public, what with the not killing people and all, but peanuts are healthy. |
