Travelling to Costa Rica for a family vacation and I am wondering if anyone has experience with the water there? Trying to decide if we should plan to drink bottled water or if we'll be OK with the water at our hotel, and the water at the home of the friend we're staying with.
We spent a week in Manuel Antonio and a few days in San Jose at local hotels, no big properties. We used tap water for brushing our teeth and washing bottles. We did not get sick. A home stay might be different, however.
No. Drink bottled water. And make sure the bottled water has not been in a tub of ice (the ice could have issues and the melted water from it can seep in under the cap).
We drank the water there and were fine.
+1 but I stayed in decently nice resorts. I didn't really worry about it in general (had drinks with ice out) but drank bottled water outside the resorts when I thought of it. |
We mostly drank bottled water. I actually did get a bit of food poisoning/stomach upset while there, which is unusual since I usually have an iron stomach. My DH got it much worse and he's much more careful than me. Kids were fine.
We drank the water, but our resort made sure it was filtrated, etc.
The tap water is completely fine. We (family of 4) were there a few weeks ago. We drank tap water everywhere we went, ate abundant fresh fruit, enjoyed every minute. Have a great trip! Can't wait to go back.
Been there backpacking three times with my husband and son (when he was 4 and 5). We all drank the water the whole time, ate fresh fruit, etc. and were in pretty remote places. No issues at all. Now, when we were in Belize...
