My husband and I are actually going out for the first time in a very longtime! We have to stay close to home so I am looking for suggestions for resturants in the Bethesda area. TIA
I am a die-hard fan of the Bethesda branch of Jaleo on Woodmont.
My personal favorites are Black's and Grapeseed, both in downtown Bethesda. Have fun!
we like persimmon. the food is very very good. also like black's, more for ambience. has anybody tried the new redwood in bethesda row?
Black Market Bistro in nearby Garrett Park is my favorite. http://www.blackmarketrestaurant.com/review.html

all of the above recommendations are good! i second them. i tend to think of jaleo as more on the casual side than some of the others though.
i also like rock creek because the food is so fresh and seasonal and delicious. |

Agree with all of the above.
Persimmon is terrific but spendy Blacks is great but somewhat loud Grapeseed is good, I would not say great I like Rock Creek for the food, atmosphere is so so I also really like Black Market Bistro in Garrett Park for food and atmosphere Redwood is good, nice atmosphere. Food is fine, not fabulous but fine. Have a wonderful time!! BTW, for a night out with kids, Pizza Mias is terrific. |
I just thought of a couple more places I really like -- Brasserie Monte Carlo in DT Bethesda. Excellent food, small restaurant, but very cozy ambiance. Red Tomato cafe is great casual dining with also a very cozy atmosphere (and perfect for a date imo).
This question is a little like "what movie should I see?", which is to say you can get good recommendations, but you are likely to get better recommendations if you tell us a little more about the kind of place you are looking for-- how much $, what kind of food, what other places you like, what sort of atmosphere, any geographic limits, etc.
Don't rule out Mon Ami Gabi - it's one of my favorites despite being part of a chain. I also second Rock Creek. Good food and very quiet/sedate.
In Bethesda, but a little off the beaten track: Olazzo for Italian, Nark Kara for Thai, and Guardado's for Spanish.
