I'm new to road cycling (though I cycle to work every day on my hybrid). Had a crash on my road bike two months ago doing a sportive and it shook me up, though am mostly healed now. Haven't been back on my road bike since. How do I get myself back on my bike and conquer my fears?? My hybrid is very heavy and stable and the road bike is carbon and very tippy. I still enjoy it and love riding.
Oh man, it's scary. It's totally normal to feel this way, OP. Start slow. Ride somewhere relatively calm and see how it goes. If you are able, can you take your road bike on a car rack somewhere relatively flat & smooth and go for a few test rides? Also, try it without clipping in for a while.
I was hit by a car on my road bike. It took me about 6 years to get back on. I started out on trails. I have been doing trails for 2 years. My goal is to try out a road ride the end of this summer. When I started back out on the trail, I had to talk out loud to myself. I am sure people thought I was insane but it really helped me. Good luck!
