I am looking for something new to read. I generally like fiction set in other times or places or mysteries. Sometimes I like a non-fiction or biography, but only if the topic is inspirational. For example, I ready Sonia Sotomayor's biography and thought it was great. My favorite book all time is 100 Years of Solitude. I also really liked The Alienist.
Any suggestions? |

For historical fiction, I recently enjoyed Teatime for the Firefly. I also love M.M. Kaye, especially The Far Pavilions. The Autobiography of Henry VIII (historical fiction) was also good.
A lot of people love Cutting for Stone, though it wasn't really to my taste. |

For good fiction set in historical times:
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford Doc by Mary Doria Russell Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez |
I really loved Rules of Civility! |

Have you read, "The Glass Castle?"
Even better than that. "Tuesdays with Morrie." <---- After reading this book, you will NEVER be the same person you were before you read this book. Promise. |
Okay, I never do this--but the subject line specified "good" books. |
| For historical fiction I like Ken Follett. I also loved The Invention of Wings. |
| The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is very good |
|
Fiction: the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
Nonfiction: Unbroken and Seabiscuit both by Laura Hillenbrand |
| I recently enjoyed the Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan. |
How rude to respond like this. Good is quite the subjective term and I was only offering up my suggestions. If you didn't want my opinions, then don't ask for them next time.

| One of my favorites is The Poisonwood Bible. |
The Kite Runner Books by Amy Tan Ocean at the End of the Lain by Neil Gaiman |
Yes! I love this one too and reread it every few years. OP, if you haven't read it definitely pick it up |
