Suggestions for August driving vacation with 4 and 6 year olds

We have a week mid-August where both kids are off school. We want to avoid driving south as the plan is to beat the heat. We can drive up to 12 hours or so and went to Vermont last year. Thinking about Maine, but really need suggestions for other places!
Kids have very different interests, unfortunately. 4 year old likes nature, zoos, aquariums, etc. 6 year old does not, and is very girly. Thanks! |
