Wakefield

Please share what you know about Wakefield. The zoning is weird. I am looking at homes with inbound MS as Jefferson, and HS is Wakefield. Jefferson is an IB curriculum but not Wakefield. The IB curriculum for Arlington county is Washington and Lee. How does it work if you want your child to continue with IB, but your residence is out out of boundaries. Do you lottery into the IB HS? TIA

Simple. Your kid has to have decent grades at Jefferson and then fill out an application. If there are more out of boundary kids who want in than there are spaces, there will be a lottery. I did not hear and rumblings about kids not getting in this year. That could change, though.

Please note. 9th and 10th is pre-IB. If your kid is accepted to this and then in 11th your kid doesn't do the full-on IB, your kid has to transfer back to Wakefield. This is a new policy, I believe.
