Granted the video was assembled by the kid’s lawyer, but it is real footage and it shows how the Post just bought the lies that Nathan Phillips was spewing verbatim. The Post’s journalists on that story should have been fired within a week. They were worse that that liar Janet Cooke because they were messing with real kids’ lives. They should be so ashamed of the garbage they publish now. It’s not journalism, just agit-prop trash. |

And, as I recall, it was on the front page and throughout the Style section. Can't remember if there was anything on the editorial page, but pretty sure there were op-eds against the kid. What happened to real reporting? What happened to getting both sides of a story? What happened to checking facts? And, those people on CNN were awful. He may be 18 now, but he was 17 when this occurred. Inexcusable on the part of our media and an example of why Fox has so many viewers. It may not be unbiased, but all the rest never show anything but leftwing bias. I see that on the network news that I watch every day. I watch Fox to see what the other side of the story might be. |

Hope WAPO paid the big bucks.
Here are just a few of the articles written at the time. Google Sandmann and Covington and you will find more than two pages of WAPO links--to include hardly any about the settlement. And, they may be there, but I didn't see any apologies from Hesse, Givhan, or Capehart, or others, for that matter. The kid was 17. It's all speculation given that it's a non-public settlement.
Our libel laws have long favored the media in ways that wouldn't be the case in other countries such as the UK. Even if the settlement amount was not large, the settlement only occurred because there were still claims pending against the WaPo. Certainly the lawsuit brought additional attention to the Post's biased coverage. |
