This guy was a fantastic speaker. Omer Neutra's parents were very moving as well.

I'm still voting for Biden. The GOP can fill the convention with great speakers, but it doesn't change who's on their ticket.

There is plenty of common ground. Most Americans are somewhere in the vast middle. The extremes on either end do not represent anyone I know.

Agree. This Also means majority of people voting for Trump are normal people, as much as I the vilification of “anyone” that votes for him. But it isn’t true and part of the problem why Democrats won’t win

She’s not relevant but the right wing is evidently freaking out about her being not White. They’re really struggling and being gross.

Meanwhile her crap politics are right there to criticize.

I don't care about her being not white, but I want to get her a hair brush and a hair tie. Even a decent cut and style--I assume they have the means for that? Her dress was great and I think she's really pretty, but the big hank of hair falling across her eye and all the wispy bits was distracting. She looked like someone 'trying to grow out their hair", but you still tackle it for a big event. I have really thick hair as well, and I would never teach a class looking at my students with one eye while I talked, and that's how she started the speech. I found it very difficult to focus on what she was saying.

Last night the RNC played a clip of racists mocking a Black woman at Ole Miss:

Overlaying the video is audio of how college students should be celebrated by going against woke.

And they chose this clip? Crazy. Tells me all I need to know.

You're not allowed to have any negative feedback about Usha Vance. You can only talk about how pretty and "well-spoken" she is.

I literally fell asleep. I am really interested in an engaging, educated speaker in politics --but the word that came to mind was "milquetoast", "pablum". Just not what I expected. I missed the 19 revolvers part--might have woken up for that so will have to re-watch the speech.

To be clear, I REALLY wanted Nikki Haley to be the VP nominee and I hope she is offered a significant role and take another try at the presidency in 4 years (so any talk about Republicans disliking Indian-American women obviously doesn't apply to all of us rooting for Haley). I am mildly interested in Vance. I am sorry that he is such a teetotaler on abortion--needed someone who simply says leave it to the states--as so many women and men are rightfully enraged by total federal ban talk, as it doesn't seem particularly constitutional. That position is not unifying and a dead end street. I find his family story interesting. I personally like rags to riches tales, even embellished, and there's no indication his is fabricated. I find that "middle America" and esp Appalachia get disparaged SO much in this country, and it's good to have the occasional candidate who recognizes their existence without mockery, but I can't tell from the little I've gleaned what his position is on his own background besides "I overcame it". Is there anything culturally that he values? Not talking about the toxic parts of deep poverty that you see in any very poor community, but the very distinct culture and deep roots of Appalachia (music, storytelling, grit, cuisine, folk art...). I haven't read the book or watched the movie, so would like to know more about his stance on his origins. As an educated person, I like the journalist and Yale background--it's like best of all-meritocracy does still apply sometimes in our country. I'm mildly interested that he served in the MC. As the spouse of an infantry Marine, his job as a journalist was a different path to say the least, but he still chose to serve so I acknowledge that. Definitely had a sleep response to his opening though... I really hope he isn't "annointed" to be President next. He'll have to earn it, and I'd like to see someone like Haley / more moderates in the running. I have a feeling Trump is going to push one of his kids on us and if Vance gets too popular will undermine him. Mark my words, that's the grand plan, and I'm not for it.

Wasn’t there supposed to be sentencing before the convention?

Is there anyone remotely normal in the Republican party? It just seems to be a conveyor belt of wackjobs. Where do they all come from? I don’t meet people like this in real life.

I’m no fan of Junior but WWII veteran, gold star families, parents of an American citizen held hostage in Gaza, poised 17 year old granddaughter of the presidential candidate, eloquent wife of the vice presidential candidate. Wackjobs??? No.

Im a never Trump. Haven’t watched RNC. Just peeked at the video of Kai Trump. She’s is poised and adorable, thanks to her mother Vanessa.

I am sure her highest priority is getting her hair coiffed to your standards, rando anon.

Independent here who is watching and will watch the Democrat one too. Conventions are huge pep rallies on both sides. I’m very impressed overall with the republican convention. The majority of the speakers have been excellent.

They are obviously moving to the center politically. That’s what the winning party always does. The momentum is clearly on the Republican side.

Even the complaining about Biden is coming from a soon-to-be winner’s perspective.

That’s obvious to anyone objective viewer.

Troll.

Two nights ago, the Republican mayor of Dallas gave a great speech to the RNC. I forgot his name but he’s a real person. He happens to be Black, but the first thing I noticed about him was that he’s a good politician and he makes sense. I hope to see more of him on the national stage.

You know it's an event for "the public eye" don't you? Maybe you don't. Maybe she doesn't.

This criticism is legit. No clue why Biden didn't fire the faux wonderkid - Jake Sullivan - who keeps failing up.

Gold Star Families are notoriously protective of the memories of their loved ones. Those families would not be there unless they felt so strongly about how and why their loved ones died. The entire convention is saying their names.

This kind of thing at a political event nauseates me.

Why? Marines who gave their lives for our country can’t be represented by their loved ones and have their stories told? Why does that make you sick?

Of course they should have their stories told. They should be honored at appropriate events by people who care. Having it at this convention makes it seem gimmicky. You know these politicians don't really give two sheets about these families. They are using them for a photo op. It cheapens it. It feels...wrong.

They died due to bad decisions made by this administration. They didn’t have to die if we stuck to the plan and withdrew from Baghram instead of letting NSC and State pull the strings.

It didn’t have to end like it did.

Yea you can lay that at the feet of Trump. He's the one who set it up before he left. That makes it even more wrong.

That’s not true. The decision makers that day were following orders from the Biden administration. Think NSC and State.
