He posted a follow up note after the farmers market show. Dude will absolutely end up in Washington or Richmond. Which party is the question.

If your parents fully funded your college and graduate work to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, you are probably in the top 2-5% of America in terms of family wealth, and certainly can't speak for the majority of Americans including most white people. |
Yes, the red-state community that he speaks to does have problems, of poor wages, depression, addiction, people not looking after each other and so on as he describes - yet they are in deeply red counties and districts run by Republicans. Yet to listen to the list of right wing talking points in his lyrics, we are to conclude that somehow every last one of their woes is entirely the fault of Democrats. Add to it that many of the red-state political movement has been to actively reject anything that might help its citizens, like healthcare and so on. When Democrats are in the White House, it's almost as though Republicans go out of their way to make things worse for their base so that they can generate suffering to try and blame Democrats for. |
The reporting out of Mississippi today about police who dismissed a twelve year old rape victim until she’d delivered her rapists baby really, really says something about a man who sings we worry too much about minors. |
+ a million dollars |
Because of context it was obvious but, sure, unlikr most black Americans, or Hispanic Americans, or Americans in general. |
|
Weird that the right wing is so invested in their weird conspiracy theories about an imaginary cabal of global elites kidnapping kids and sacrificing them to the devil and drinking their blood for eternal youth...
...yet don't give a single shit about the very real situation of children being raped and then being forced to carry their rapist's baby to term at risk of their own wellbeing and possible death. |
I mean to quote the song he: wish politicians would look out for miners / And not just minors So why do we think he or his fans give a good goddamn about a raped child? She’s not a miner. |
But I can speak to the drivers of generational wealth. And those include inheriting desirable and appreciating real estate from my great-grandparents and grandparents. Something that would have been challenging and unlikely for poor White Americans but literally illegal for Black ones. Do you see the difference? |
Perhaps if what you described was accurate, but it's really not. |
Are you one of those DC white liberals that apologize for reaching your potential? |
I see that you are a rich white anglo elite with little to add yet feeling entitled to know more than more experienced people including minorities. And I wonder, where does your entitlement come from? |
+1 seriously!! |
What does “entitled to know more” even mean? A willingness to read books? To acknowledge and examine privilege? To point out structural barriers to advancement that aren’t based on how people feel but on actual laws and history? I would speculate that entitlement comes from a lack of insecurity. It’s never been necessary for me to play Victim Olympics and so I don’t have to pretend to believe the “sad rural white men” story. |
Regardless of our parents or grandparents being allowed or not allowed to own real estate, a large percentage of Americans do not inherit real estate or much else in terms of generational wealth, whites included. Again, not all of us are in the top 2-5% and the wealth divide between the richest and the rest of us has gotten even worse in the last 50 years. |
