plane travel with Britax Roundabout carseat

Anonymous
Has anyone used any of the contraptions available for using the car seat as a stroller, like the Go Go Kidz TravelMate or the Traveling Toddler Car Seat Travel Accessory (strap that attaches to a wheeled suitcase)? I'm wondering if these items are necessary or would a simple travel cart (not built for the specific purpose) would work just as well. Any other suggestions on air travel with a convertible car seat would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We use the backpack holder from OneStepAhead for our Roundabout. It kills your back, but leaves your hands free for stroller pushing and carrying everything else.

My sister in-law uses the go-go kids with her Roundabout and swears by it. She showed me how it worked when she visited us and it looks great, just a bit pricey. She and a friend actually went in on it together b/c they both travel and they share it and it has worked out well for them.

When we flew last year with our Roundabout, I looked into all of those fancy contraptions and ultimately got a great tip from someone on this board... Since we were planning to both bring the Roundabout on the plane AND use the stroller to get through the airport and gate-check it, we simply looped the back straps of the Roundabout over the stroller handles, and it hung there. It was a tiny bit awkward to push, and getting through security was a bit of a production, but overall it was very easy and didn't cost a penny! However if you are a frequent airplane traveler, the Go-Go Kidz thing is probably a good investment.

I also used the packback from One Step Ahead. It's really useful if you are traveling solo with young kids. I found that hanging the carseat off the stroller was more work b/c if the child climbed out the whole thing would topple over. Became more work than it was worth for me.

With DD1 we followed a tip from the main boards and bungee corded the roundabout to the stroller and strapped DD into the roundabout and pushed the whole thing through the airport. A bit time-consuming going through security but otherwise a great idea. When DD2 was born I got a GoGo Kidz because now I need to take two car seats on the plane but only one stroller. I do love it! But if you are taking a stroller through anyway, the bungee cords are definitely practical and cheap!

Can you check the carseat? Put it in a garbage bag or something and check it? Is that allowed?

You can check it - I think you can ask for a bag at the check-in counter, or buy something a but more protective than a glorified trash bag, but it is safest for the kids to be in the car seat on the plane.

If your kid is under two and on your lap then they can't be in the carseat.
