Help me think of a good side dish please

Anonymous
I am planning to visit an ill friend today and am going to bring a meal with me to give to her caregivers (family members).

The meal will be sloppy joes, corn on the cob, and a watermelon salad. But it feels incomplete... any suggestions for something to include to round out the meal? Thanks!

A green salad or green vegetable.

Option two might be a bean salad.

Baked beans to go with your summery meal? Coleslaw?

I assume you already have dessert.

Sloppy joes is a bad idea. They're very ... sloppy and hard to eat without making a mess.

OP here... and actually I am visiting tomorrow, not today, my mistake.

I was thinking of bringing burgers instead of sloppy joes, but not sure how to do that without the burgers drying out when they re-heat them to eat later. I will be arriving around 2:00 and told them I would bring a dinner that they could eat later after I leave.

Is there a good way to bring burgers that wouldn't result in dried out hockey pucks? Maybe even just bring hot dogs instead?

Sloppy joes are delicious and not a bad idea at all. Plus, if they don't want to eat the bun, they can eat just the filling.

I think sloppy joes sound fine.

I'd add something green, like steamed green beans. I'm not even sure that's necessary, though, your menu sounds fantastic.

Grilled asparagus? It's in season and you can serve it room temp. Dress it with a simple vinaigrette, or just S&P.

Thanks everyone. The green beans seem like a perfect idea, I will make green beans almondine I think.

One more vote for sloppy joes. I love them. I'd go for the asparagus, but green beans are fine too.

Another person who prefers sloppy joes to hamburgers. An option is to give them both hamburger buns and pita bread. For those who are afraid it's too sloppy, they can cut the pita in half and spoon the filling into the pita pocket to eat.

Green beans and asparagus both sound good. I also make a cucumber salad with cucumber in a vinagrette dressing that's a nice summery salad. Sometimes for color, I'll add a handful of grape tomatoes.
