How long does bloat last after confirmed pregnancy?

Anonymous
I am about six weeks pregnant after an IVF stim round, and look about four months pregnant. My bloat hasn't lessened at all over the last few weeks.

Has anyone else still dealt with lots of bloat this long after stimulation ended?

My doctor said I might have had OHSS during this last cycle. Could the bloat still be left over from that?

This bloating is a real pain, and I feel like I need to already hide a pregnancy that has just begun, and may not even work out.

I am also worried that the continued bloat may be a sign of trouble with the pregnancy. My doctor is supposed to call me soon to talk, and maybe sked an early sono, but I am also hoping to hear about your experiences.

Hi OP--my bloat didn't really go away during my pregnancy... it just turned from bloat to a normal-looking pregnant belly around 4 months. Pregnancy was textbook-normal despite bloat. Now I have a health 2-y-o DD. Good luck!

Are you taking supplemental progesterone? My bloat lessened a bit after they weaned me off the progesterone -- but then it came back in my second trimester. It's now starting to transition to pregnant belly (I'm at 17 weeks tomorrow).

OP here: Yes, I am taking two vaginal progesterone inserts a day, and two Estradiol pills a day.

For work I can no longer wear the vast majority of my dresses. I have taken to wearing pants and a billowy top most days, but even then my shirts still rest on my bloat. It's embarrassing and uncomfortable.

I have been pregnant before, so I know that I really do look like I am about four-months pregnant vs what I actually am, six weeks.

Hey OP, I had the same issue. When they did my 6w scan they did note that I had some excess fluid which confirmed my thinking that I had mild OHSS. At 7w the bloat went down and now I'm at 10w and it appears to be gone. 8w scan did not show fluid but ovaries are still kind of big.

Of course this is now replaced with pregnancy bloat but it's a different feeling. The IVF bloat was truly uncomfortable. I hope it subsides for you soon.

I think it's been 3 years now?

+1 (but DD is not quite 2)

OP here. Thanks for all of the responses!

I am also somewhat anxious about whether this bloating could mean bad news for the pregnancy. It just seems so over the top.

My first sono is skedded for early next week. I wish it were tomorrow.

Around 15 months if you're lucky?!

Congrats on the pregnancy.

I think you should be concerned for OHSS. I had this happen and had to have an emergency draining. Twice I think. You should demand an appointment and an ultrasound. And there are certain things you should be drinking and doing. My nurse kinda blew me off when I kept saying about the bloating and finally said ok just come in. When I came in they said yeah upstairs to the O/R right away.

OP have you had rapid weight gain? If not then you are probably fine... but if your weight it going way up really fast then definitely call your RE as you may need to be drained.

In my case I was just uncomfortable but no weight gain. I found that chugging gatorade, vitamin water, and coconut water for a few weeks finally helped. Make sure you're getting plenty of electrolytes and fluids.
