| So I thought that I would ask this here. I am an Arabic speaker, I'm not quite at a native level and I'm not a linguist either, but I have pretty decent fluency at reading, writing, and speaking. I also have a JD. I have found a few positions here and there that I'm a good match for, and I've applied to them, but I'm just going to throw this out there because there may be some random government agency that I haven't heard of. I would like to give more detail about my qualifications, but DCUM has a few crazies so I won't. |
| I'd imagine that they ALL can use Arabic speakers. Education, HHS, even USDA. |
| If you are clearable, you could try the security agencies, starting with TSA, FBI... there are a few. |
I sort of know this, but what I'm looking for is smaller sub-agencies or offices that I can look into, and see what they specifically do and if I am a good match. I'm trying to think beyond the more well-known agencies like the FBI, etc. And out of curiosity, what do you think Education would do with an Arabic speaker? |
Many Arabic speaking k-12 students in U.S. schools these days. I'd imagine that Education could use someone to work on publications and general outreach. A friend from grad school is a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker and she got a job doing outreach based on that language. |
Lctl department at acfl, cal or dep of education |
| I would think Dept of State, CIA, and FBI, but I do not know personally. |
- and Homeland Security and the FINCEN. |
Sorry, I am not familiar with some of these acronyms? What is acfl? |
You are JD, know a foreign language and can't google? |
I thought it may be a typo based on the google results I got but thank you for making me elaborate that. |
| Any chance you're interesting in becoming a law enforcement officer? You'd start at a pretty low level but you could move up and probably be in management based on your background. Customs and Border Protection (part of DHS) is looking for officers (on the Customs side of the house) who speak Arabic. |
