If you have a 4-7 month old, where do you go when you leave the house? I am finding this age difficult to think of things to entertain her. Usually whenever we leave the house she falls asleep for the whole time we're out in the car seat/stroller, so it seems whatever we're doing isn't really a change of scenery for her. We do lunch out, errands, park, walks, Target, mall, etc. but I'd like to come up with some other ideas. We haven't done any playgroups yet. |
I've taken long walks (usually 1.5 hours) with my baby since he was three-months-old. He does fall asleep but as he's gotten older he sleep sleeps less and enjoys the scenery for the rest of the walk. Even if he is asleep, I'm always happy he is getting fresh air. Now that he's 7.5 months we walk to the library and read books and go to the park where he is mesmerized by watching "big kids" play on the swings and jungle gym. He also likes to watch anyone play tennis. He gets nothing from car rides but a nap. |
We do tons of walks in our neighborhood, small errands on foot, and a weekly Playgroup. We also visit family. |
Like 16:18, my baby is in seventh heaven watching older kids play anywhere - in the park, the pool, the school yard and enthralled with looking for dogs on our walks. In my experience, taking the baby in the car for diversion is a waste of time. Walks, walks and walks - good for both of us whether she is asleep or not. |
I just go all the places I need to go to get errands done. Plus we add in a couple of toddler parks - she likes the swings and watching big kids. |
I think what you are doing is just fine- the point is really that she is getting fresh air and a change of scenery. Playdates would be mostly for your benefit as babies that young don't generally interact with eachother. Lap time/story time and baby swings at the playground are a good idea though! |
We go to the pool, parks to use swings, out to eat-loves sitting on dad's lap while he eats and doesn't complain a bit(they do it at breakfast every morning), trail hiking in Snugli(he was all eyes the other day),Starbucks, take auntie to lunch, visit friends and of course we run all errands including getting car inspected in DC. |
I go wherever I would go if I didn't have a baby-- activities with my older child, walks, hikes, museums, lunch with friends, etc. The baby is strapped to me in a carrier, is on my lap, or on my hip. |
Grocery shopping, walks/hikes, the library, museums... pretty much anywhere I need/want to go. |
You're doing everything right. We take tons of walks, go out to breakfast since we are up so early & run errands! This age they really just like looking at everything. You could try the pool too |
